Well, today is a rainy day, but haven’t the last few days been absolutely lovely? Yesterday was my favorite day of the year. The day I look forward to for months. There I was, already having a fabulous day because I was outside in the early evening running errands in this 71 degree weather, sunglasses on, cool spring air flowing into the car enjoying some tunes (quick diversion: on these great warm days I suggest having a listen to James Maddock’s “When the Sun’s Out”) … and there in front of me in the grocery store parking lot, I saw them… mother and child, child dressed in a shortbread cookie costume, selling … Girl Scout Cookies!! Aaaah, the joy of the first thin mint of the year! What joy! It almost made me as happy as seeing that first daffodil bloom in my yard a couple days ago. Yes, I might be rather easily amused, but I really enjoy every little sign of spring.

So today I was making a disk for our clients Allison and Matt, and I realized theirs was one of the weddings I never blogged last summer when we were so busy! So today I’m happy to show you some of their images.

Allison and Matt’s wedding was on Mother’s Day, so they had roses ready for all the ladies …

Allison and Matt didn’t see each other before the ceremony, but they did want to do the traditional hand-holding photo. I love this moment, because I’ve never done this photo op before when so many people were in tears. Including, as you see, Allison. They were so sweet!

Here is Allison in a quiet moment before the ceremony. She looks so beautiful and serene. This is in the bride’s room at the Day Chapel at the Georgia Botanical Gardens, in Athens.

I love this shot of Matt’s dad waiting the ceremony to start. He looks like he’s replaying memories of Matt growing up in his head.

This story warms my heart. We all know that sometimes during a wedding day things don’t exactly go as planned. Well, on this day, they had quite a challenge getting the unity candle lit. They tried for a few minutes, and many people would have just given up. But Matt would NOT give up. He was determined to get this candle lit. And what I loved the most was that they didn’t find it upsetting when the candle wouldn’t light. They laughed, they tried again, they laughed a little more. We laughed with them, and soon we were all rooting for the flame to appear. What says the most about a couple is how they handle those unexpected moments, and when this happened I kind of fell in love with them.

Matt used ingenuity and sheer determination to get the candle lit. The reason I love this story is that it seems like the perfect metaphor for how they will handle issues that may arise in their lives. He didn’t even mind that in the process he burned his fingers.

Success!!

And again my favorite part of the day, that moment after the ceremony when they just take it all in.

Since we were at the botanical gardens, I loved finding this field of blooms that matched the pink in Allison’s bouquet.

And just a couple images from the reception. There was so much joy and love in this room. I feel good just going back and seeing the images and remembering the people.

But maybe my favorite shot of the day is this image of Matt dancing with his mother.

I was so struck by how much these people really enjoy each other. Vera and her dad.

And Ryan with his mom. Don’t you just adore the looks on their faces?

I loved seeing Vera and Ryan in their quiet moments during the day. Such tenderness between them. Here’s one stolen kiss on the dance floor…

Extra points to these kids for creating fun at the reception. They built a house of cards out of the placecards and table cards. After generous donations from other tables, at one point they had this thing about 3 feet tall!

Sooo much fun at this reception. These people can dance! Although a few particularly talented dancers led the way.

I just love this shot of a couple of guests.

One of the highlights of the evening was the singing performance of Vera’s dad. He did a few songs, but here I think we’re seeing Mustang Sally.

This fireplace in the entryway of Country Club of the South is just gorgeous.

I always love a good swishing dress. This time during the last dance.

Vera and Ryan make their exit through sparklers.

Ready to leave in the Rolls. The looks on their faces tell you everything you need to know about this evening and about their amazing personalities.

Sixty-one degrees, people! I want to shout it from the rooftops! Spring has sprung! This first warm day in what feels like forever had me wishing I was outdoors playing.

Perhaps I should not admit this in public. But I can’t help thinking of that song from the Brady Bunch.

I think I’ll go for a walk outside now

The summer sun’s callin’ my name (I hear ya now)

I just can’t stay inside all day

I gotta get out, get me some of those rays

Now all of you who are old enough to remember those crazy Brady kids dancing their over-choreographed butts off trying to pay for that silver platter after Jan jacked up the inscription are going to have that song in your heads all day. You’re welcome.

And in honor of this beautiful day, another image from Brett’s 10-month session. He loves this sunflower mirror.
