Magic Color Monday

POTD: from Angie and Jorge’s wedding last week. The wedding was at Sacred Heart, and as the flower girls stepped into the sanctuary, I was struck by the colors. The flags hung for 4th of July weekend in the church created a great sense of time and place. So when I processed this image I decided to hyper-saturate the colors… if there is any holiday that screams bold color, it’s the fourth of July… from spectacular fireworks to the red, white, and blue of the flags … combined with the light streaming through stained glass windows, the bold green of the flower halos and purple sashes on the flower girls. It also gives me a great sense of what a little girl might feel walking in to a big, beautiful church as everyone looks on.

This image is a lot of what I try to do as a photographer. I want these images to convey a true sense of the experience of this moment. But in our memories, we tend to idealize these times as we file them away in our memories… in a good memory, the colors are a little bolder, the sun a little brighter, the tastes a little sweeter, the fireworks even more spectacular.

Birthday cakes and blue skies

Saturday, I shot the wedding of Ayanna and Talib. You’ll hear and see lots more about them, because I absolutely adore them, and also because they’re totally glamorous! Anyway, I walked in to the bride’s room on Saturday, and two of the bridesmaids were giggling like the cat that swallowed the, um… cupcake. Like this:

Turns out they were sampling leftover cupcakes that were used for the wedding favors. Cupcakes from one of my new alltime great loves, CamiCakes. I’m telling you, the love I feel for these cupcakes is Gone-With-The-Wind, Adam-Sandler-singing-to-Drew-Barrymore-on-an-airplane love. I immediately changed what I wanted for my birthday, so later today, I’ll be indulging in these sent straight from heaven treats until I pass out from sheer exhilaration.

As a birthday treat for myself, I’m posting images from one of my all-time favorite engagement sessions. Allie and Alfredo invited me to her parents farm, where we had an absolute ball. I could NOT stop shooting! It is going to take me a few blogs to get through all my favorites, but here’s a start.
